24 Hours in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: 5 Things to Tick Off Your To Do List

If you’ve only got 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur, never fear, Eve is here!
Let me take you through my whirlwind day in Malaysia’s buzzing capital, combining a touch of luxury with some authentic city adventures.

Where to Stay: Four Points by Sheraton

I arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the early afternoon, around 12 o’clock, and checked into my hotel. Wanting a little indulgence after the no-frills backpacker hostels of Thailand, I chose Four Points by Sheraton in the heart of Chinatown.

The hotel staff were incredible—super friendly and welcoming, even though I turned up with my big backpacker backpack and a distinctly “just off the road” vibe. I was one very lucky girl was a view over the KL skyline.

There’s nothing quite like the comfort of your own space, especially with a view like that.

Afternoon: Shop at Petaling Street

After settling in, I decided to get out and about and so Chinatown’s Petaling Street was my first stop.

Whether you’re looking for an arty vibe, souvenirs, street food, or just the experience of walking amidst the hustle and bustle.

When you’re ready, find a spot to grab a drink, sit back, and take it all in.

Next Stop: Galeri Kuala Lumpur at Merdeka Square

Venturing out of Chinatown for a bit, I headed to Galeri Kuala Lumpur located at Merdeka Square and directly opposite Independence Square.

The gallery showcases Kuala Lumpur’s rich cultural heritage alongside its modern growth and is a vibrant hub of exhibitions, history, and interactive displays that offer a fresh perspective on the city’s story.

Evening: Drinks at PS150

As the evening rolled around, I decided to explore KL’s speakeasy scene.

I had done some prior research and knew there were some pretty cool speakeasy bars in the Chinatown area near my hotel. So, I thought, why not?

With the only dress I had in my backpack, and my trusty Birkenstocks, and headed out to see what I could find.

PS150 is inconspicuous. Hidden in plain sight.

It felt a bit surreal asking the security guy at the door if there was actually a bar behind there. Once inside, I walked through three different themed rooms before finally reaching the main bar, earning a few stares along the way.

Unfazed, I found a spot at the bar and settled in.
Flanked by two groups of young, chatty girls, I had lucked out.

The vibe of PS150 was unmatched—dim lighting, creative cocktails, and an air of mystery.

AfterHours:
Cocktails with a View at the Helipad

Set on an actual helipad, this rooftop bar offers jaw-dropping 360-degree views of Kuala Lumpur.

Our journey began with a ride up a creaky, old elevator in an unassuming building. After 34 floors, we reached the top, paid the 100RM entrance fee, selected our two included cocktails, and made the final climb up the stairs to the 36th-floor helipad.

And WOW.

The view was simply incredible—360° panoramic vistas of KL, with the vibrant energy of a rooftop bar coming alive at night.

Watching the skyline shimmer, crowned by the iconic Petronas Towers glowing against the night sky, was absolutely breathtaking.

Whether you’re sipping a cocktail or simply taking in the unparalleled views, this is an experience you can’t miss.

In just 24 hours, Kuala Lumpur gave me a taste of its vibrant culture, rich history, and electric nightlife.

From the bustling markets of Chinatown to the chic speakeasies and jaw-dropping rooftop views, the city knows how to leave a lasting impression.

If you’ve got a day to spare in KL, make it count with these must-dos.
