Walking the Point Addis to Bells Beach Trail

Just when we thought summer had wrapped up for good, Victoria surprised us with a final burst of warmth — the kind of weekend that makes you want to be outside from sunrise to sunset. With the sun expected to hit a glorious 30°C, Mum, Dad and I decided to spend our Sunday doing something a little special.

We packed up early and drove down to Point Addis, tucked along the Great Ocean Road, ready to walk the coastal trail to Bells Beach and back.

If you've never done this walk, it’s a 12km round trek along the sand, up the dunes and into the bushland.

The light was perfect.

That kind of morning glow that cuts across the water and makes the waves shimmer — almost like the ocean was glowing from the inside out.

Surfers were already out, paddling into the lineup with the ease of people who do this every weekend. It felt like such a snapshot of Aussie life — laid-back, outdoorsy, deeply connected to nature.

What made it even more meaningful was doing it with my family. We moved to Australia together 17 years ago, and it’s moments like these that remind me how lucky we are to live here.

Taking it all in.

There’s something about this place that slows you down in the best way. Maybe it’s the smell of the salt air or the rhythm of the waves.

Or maybe it’s knowing we’re walking through land with a story much older than us — country that’s been cared for by the Wadawurrung people for generations.

This is what Sundays are for.
